We are excited to share that Sunswap has been named one of The Sunday Times Best Places to Work for 2024. This recognition shows that we are dedicated to creating a great place to work where our talented team can grow, be happy, and help change the  industry.

The Sunday Times Best Places to Work helps to celebrate the top employers across various industries and sizes in the UK. This year’s winners include well-known companies such as Octopus Energy, Veolia, Tui, Easyjet Holidays, and Dishoom.

Andrew Sucis, Sunswap’s Chief Operating Officer, commented ” As a four-year-old company, being named as The Sunday Times Best Places to Work holds immense significance for Sunswap. This recognition reinforces our commitment to fostering a positive environment. It also strengthens our ability to attract and retain the best talent in the cleantech sector. All this helps to accelerate our mission to decarbonise the cold chain industry.”

A key highlight of the process was the inclusion of an anonymous survey for employees to evaluate engagement across various areas such as performance, management, employee well-being, and culture. Being nominated as a potential winner based on this data is immensely valuable. It underscores the significance of internal feedback from our exceptional team, who serve as the most authentic sources for understanding the Sunswap work experience.

At Sunswap, we understand that our people drive the company’s success. We have invested significant effort in building a strong, inclusive company culture that aligns with our values and mission. Following a consultation with the team, we took concrete steps to ensure our team feels supported, engaged, and empowered, these steps include:

  1. Enhanced Benefits Package: We now offer 30 days of annual leave (including a Wellbeing Day), access to 5 free counselling sessions yearly via a 24/7 employee assistance program, and flexible work arrangements.
  2. Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives: Our dedicated diversity and inclusion committee has implemented a progressive menstrual and menopause policy, enhanced Maternity Leave Policy (4-16 weeks of full pay based on tenure), and instituted a 4-week Paternity Leave.
  3. Employee Well-being: We have two certified Mental Health First Aiders, an Employee well-being policy, monthly check-ins, a dedicated wellness room, and Mental Health training for all employees.
  4. Engagement and Transparency: Initiatives like Founders Round-Table sessions, quarterly off-site All-Hands meetings, and paid social events foster strong connections and transparency.
  5. Employee-Driven Initiatives: From determining employee values to refining our benefits package and performance management framework, every step is driven by the collective voice of our team

Sophie Hazelwood, our Head of People, has been instrumental in shaping this culture. “We are passionate about creating a workplace that encourages collaboration, innovation, and growth. As we keep growing, we will stay focused on making sure our team is happy and has a place where they can do great things.”

The Sunday Times recognition demonstrates Sunswap’s ability to attract and retain skilled talent, which is crucial for securing funding and supporting our growth and development. Furthermore, it is evidence that the company is not just technologically innovative but also well-managed and capable of being a reliable, long-term partner for those in the cold chain.
