Job overview

In the role of Head of Finance, you’ll collaborate closely with the Chief Finance Officer and guide the finance team in championing financial health and strategy. Your responsibilities include analysing financial data, supervising budgeting, and assessing project viability. You’ll diligently monitor BOM expenses, ensure tax compliance, and improve accounting transparency.

You’ll spearhead process enhancements and uphold payroll accuracy. Furthermore, you’ll streamline payment approvals and enhance cash flow optimisation to support strategic decision-making.

Key responsibilities

  • Analyse financial data and preparing comprehensive reports at the end of each month to provide insights into Sunswap’s performance.
  • Managing and leading the finance team, including, performance management and career development.
  • Supervising the entire budgeting and reforecasting processes, ensuring accuracy and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Directing the evaluation process for projects, assessing their feasibility, ROI, and impact on the company’s financial health.
  • Compiling detailed reports for presentation to the Board and external investors, highlighting key financial metrics, performance trends, and strategic initiatives.
  • Closely monitoring Bill of Materials (BOM) costs, conducting regular analysis, and reporting to identify cost-saving opportunities and optimise resource allocation.
  • Act as a finance business partnership with Commercial and Operations teams providing analytical and financial support to assist the business achieve operational goals and growth.
  • Ensuring comprehensive tax compliance across various areas, including VAT, R&D Tax credits, and payroll taxes, while exploring opportunities to maximise tax benefits.
  • Leading accounting manufacturing procedures to accurately track costs, streamline processes, and improve financial transparency.
  • Proactively identifying areas within finance systems and processes that require enhancement, proposing and implementing solutions to optimise efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Overseeing payment approvals and implementing robust cash management practices to mitigate financial risks, and support strategic decision-making.

Qualifications & experience 

  • Qualified member of a professional accountancy body (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or holder of an equivalent qualification;
  • Hold a degree level qualification or have significant experience in an appropriate and/or associated discipline;
  • Prior involvement in conducting regular assessments of payroll processes to ensure accuracy, regulatory adherence, and alignment with internal policies and legal requirements.
  • Evidence through prior experience, leading financial and commercial models instrumental in guiding strategic decision-making.
  • Prior background in a comparable position within a startup environment
