Job overview

As the Lead Manufacturing Engineer, you will work with our operations and engineering teams to deliver production units of the Sunswap TRU. This role will be directly responsible for the functionality and quality of the products, developing, implementing, and optimising manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.

Key responsibilities

  • Work with the operations and engineering teams to launch a manufacturing line for the Sunswap TRU.
  • Apply design for manufacturing principles in a product development environment.
  • Oversee and troubleshoot production verification and production builds.
  • Develop processes and documentation that will inform future production process.
  • Create and maintain Process FMEA, control and quality plans and production assembly instructions.
  • Implement and maintain in-process and End of Line testing to ensure the on-time delivery of production units.
  • Use root cause analysis to solve manufacturing and quality issues.
  • Work with our partners to define tooling for assembly, jigs, fixtures as well as defining packaging requirements.
  • Support production planning, delivery, and quality monitoring.
  • Travel to visit suppliers and partners as required.

Qualifications & experience 

  • A degree in mechanical, automotive, aerospace engineering or equivalent industry experience in a production environment.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering roles, with a focus on process development, problem solving and optimisation.
  • Demonstrated experience applying design for manufacturing (DFM) principles.
  • Experience with various manufacturing processes and components (e.g. casting, machining, moulding, assembly, fabrications) and measurement techniques.
  • Technical expertise in process development and equipment design.
  • Experience working in 3D CAD design, detailed drawing review, and coordinating with outside suppliers.
  • Good understanding of requirements, specification and validation / verification methods.
  • Experience managing a team across a variety of competencies & able to support with their development. 
  • Strong practical experience in low and medium volume production processes.
  • Experience implementing capital projects in a production environment.
  • Experience in ERP / PLM systems.
