Job Overview

As the Lead Project Engineer you will ensure we meet our customer SLAs by building and managing a team of internal field engineers as well as training external maintenance engineers on our products. You will be the escalation point for infield issues and lead cross functional teams to contain and resolve them. You will also be responsible for the definition, development, testing and delivery of the Serviceability of Sunswap’s core technology. This is a great opportunity to be part of building a fast-growing business in an exciting environment. You will play a major role in the development of the Sunswap product range.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directly manage a team of mobile/field engineers ensuring Sunswap can provide adequate field support to meet customer demands and meet response and uptime SLA.
  • Make time sensitive decisions on customer units whilst managing risk and ambiguity
  • Collaborate with Design and System Engineers, focusing on hardware product design ensuring simplicity, minimum specialist tooling and published technical documentation.
  • Generate concepts and systems supporting Sunswap’s product serviceability and maintenance.
  • Define and implement engineering test requests for Aftermarket use cases as well as managing test rigs
  • Create maintenance related technical documentation
  • Specify and source components, considering both performance and cost.
  • Articulate complex technical solutions with peers and non-engineering colleagues, such that others can easily understand, build and evolve your ideas.
  • Support customer deployments of the Sunswap refrigeration units.
  • Build diagnostic requirement and architecture, defining onboard diagnostic and cloud based prognostic solutions.

Qualifications & experience

  • Previously lead and mentored a team of engineers/technicians, providing guidance, support, and motivation to achieve team goals and individual professional growth.
  • A degree in electrical, systems, automotive, aerospace engineering or equivalent or strong mechanical/electrical aptitude and ability to understand complex systems
  • Experience in automotive / transport / motorsport / electrical systems, complying with industry standards, safety processes and certification.
  • Hands on experience with product maintenance/ Proven experience in serviceability and maintenance for refrigerated trailers, HVAC or similar systems
  • An awareness of good engineering practices and problem-solving techniques.
  • An understanding of system-level engineering and the interaction between digital, electrical and mechanical systems.
  • A high-level knowledge of electronics and battery technology.
  • Experience with CAD and reviewing design standards
  • Good knowledge of (service) BoMs
  • The ability to troubleshoot electrical systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interpret/execute written instructions as well as work collaboratively as part of a wider team across the business
  • A ‘can do’ attitude and be able to work within the timescales set through the SLA’s
  • The ability to design and provide solutions to a wide range of complex problems
  • A passion for the environment and being a force for good
