Rotterdam, Netherlands. Royal Euser, one of the Netherlands' largest logistics service providers, has selected Sunswap Endurance as its transport refrigeration unit for zero-emission cold chain operations. Operating more than 500 trucks and employing over 1000 people, Euser runs daily cold chain routes for some of the leading Dutch Food retailers and foodservice operators.

The collaboration brings electric refrigeration - with zero emissions, and trailer-top solar charging - to Euser's daily delivery routes across the Netherlands.

Euser runs cold chain operations that pass through city centres, residential streets and neighbourhood depots. Delivering chilled and frozen foods, every hour, every day, in the places where people live and work.

Removing diesel from that equation wasn't just a sustainability consideration, but also an operational one.  An operational improvement that was zero-emission, quieter, and considered what those routes should look like for the people running them, and for the communities they pass through.

Bas Euser, General Director, Euser said, "Our drivers and depot teams are at the centre of everything we do. When we looked at what the next step in our fleet should be, we weren't just asking about emissions or cost - we were asking what makes the working day better for the people in it, and what it means for the customers and communities we serve. Sunswap Endurance answers both of those questions. It's built electric from the start, it performs, and it fits how our operations actually run."

Professor of Urban Logistics, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences “Making refrigerated and frozen transport more sustainable requires more than just electric trucks. The refrigeration system at the rear of the trailer must also move away from diesel. Innovations such as Sunswap, using battery and solar energy for transport refrigeration, demonstrate that an emission-free cold chain is becoming technically and economically feasible.”

Sunswap Endurance is designed electric from the ground up. Hardware, software, and service are built as a single system. Trailer-top solar panels provide extended runtimes, reducing grid dependency and charging costs. In European operations the unit runs for up to 24 hours frozen on a single charge, and up to two months in chilled temperature.

Mike Lowe, CEO of Sunswap, said: "Euser runs serious cold chain operations across the Netherlands, and they approached this the way any rigorous operator should - they wanted to know Endurance performs, that it's supported, and that it offers an easier and better experience for the people using it every day. We've seen great performance across every major fleet we work with, and we're looking forward to proving it again on Euser's routes."

Diesel refrigeration units run in loading bays, city streets and residential areas where the health impact is greatest. Research by TNO, commissioned by the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, found that during city deliveries, diesel refrigeration units account for approximately one third of total NOx emissions from a refrigerated truck - despite being a fraction of the size of the main engine.

Endurance produces zero emissions and is PIEK Compliant, independently measured for low noise output, making it suitable for night deliveries and city-centre routes where noise restrictions apply. For drivers at the unit every day and for the communities on those routes, that means no additional engine running behind the cab, no fumes at the loading bay, and quiet operation through night deliveries and residential drops.

Endurance operates across fleets globally, running for Tesco, DFDS, Ocado, Birds Eye and Noble Foods, among others. Operators have achieved up to 81% reduction in refrigeration operating costs compared to diesel. The unit generates continuous performance data, giving operators full visibility across their fleet.
