Batteries that keep on delivering

Our batteries deliver 3000 full cycles (charge 0-100%). With 300 full cycles a year and most operations only needing to partially charge each day, that’s easily over 10 years of power, reliability and zero emission refrigeration.

The bottom line

In our industry, being sustainable has to be commercially viable. Our solar array, batteries and the intervening electronics are highly efficient compared to combustion engines, meaning a significant cost-saving.

Zero tailpipe emission

There is no such thing as zero impact when it comes to modern transport systems. Using a combination of solar power and mains electricity still has an impact, even when it’s more efficient and uses up to 86% solar energy in some instances.

By removing tailpipe emissions, we are giving fossil fuels nowhere to hide, while mains electricity transitions to renewable sources year after year.

Looking beyond carbon metrics…

Decarbonising the cold chain is our main focus, but there are other elements to our mission.

For example, our TRUs will help to remove nitrogen oxides (NOx) and other damaging pollution from the air we breathe – especially as a diesel TRU emits 16x more NOx than a lorry’s engine.

Our TRUs have undergone a rigorous evaluation conducted by CENEX, renowned experts in low emission transport research and consultancy. CENEX has verified that our technology has the potential for significant environmental and economic savings when compared to diesel systems.

“The modelled total LCA (life cycle assessment) global warming impact of the Sunswap system is 77 to 93% less than diesel and there are major savings in most of the other environmental impact categories.”

“The estimated total cost of ownership (TCO) savings of the Sunswap system after 7 years range between 20 and 50% compared to diesel. A typical supermarket multi-compartment operation can achieve payback of the initial investment in 2 to 4 years.”
