About us

Every refrigerated truck and trailer moving goods across the country has relied on diesel for decades. It's polluting, expensive, and the technology has not changed. Two companies have dominated the market, selling the same legacy technology with minor updates.

Sunswap makes the electric refrigeration that's replacing it — zero emissions, lower operating costs, built from the ground up for how fleets actually operate. Endurance runs frozen goods for 24 hours on a single charge and chilled goods for up to two months. Those numbers matter on the road, and getting them right took years of obsessive engineering from a team drawn from automotive, aerospace, and motorsport.

We have gone from founding to manufacturing at scale globally in just six years. We built our own production facility in Surrey. Today we are 200 times larger by square footage than when we started. We operate on three continents — units run across the UK, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Chile, and Australia. And we are trusted by major brands like Tesco, Ocado, Birds Eye, and Happy Eggs every single day.

We have been named Sunday Times Best Place to Work in 2024, 2025 and 2026. We have won awards for innovation, technology, and marketing excellence. We have backing from leading investors including BGF, Barclays, Clean Growth Fund, Shell, and Rabobank.

We have got the customers, the traction, and the momentum. Now we are taking this British-engineered product global — scaling manufacturing, opening new markets, and building the team that will make legacy polluting technology obsolete across the world.

If you want to be part of a company that is setting new standards for the industry and scaling internationally, this is it.

Job overview

Commercial Engineering sits between our engineering team and our customers and partners. The team ensures customers adopt our products seamlessly into their operations, and turns field feedback — issues, requests, workarounds — into structured input for engineering's change management process. We own the customer feedback loop end to end, from first contact through to resolution in product development.

We're looking for an experienced Commercial Engineer to own the technical side of customer relationships. Account executives own the commercial relationship; this role owns the technical one — translating customer needs into engineering requirements, and translating engineering constraints back to customers in language they can understand.

The role covers customers and partners across Europe, requiring occasional travel. Professional English is required; French is strongly desired.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for a portfolio of EU customers and partners, supporting product adoption.
  • Validate customer orders against deliverable specification: checking trailer/vehicle specs against our system specs, managing variances from standard configuration, and factoring in installation and rollout constraints, across hardware and SaaS.
  • Translate customer requirements into clear, well-scoped engineering requirements for change management. Be comfortable challenging a customers assumptions and identifying the real core issue.
  • Translate engineering feedback into customer facing language.
  • Triage incoming customer requests, resolving commercial and process issues directly and escalating only what requires engineering input.
  • Manage relationships across multiple stakeholders: the end user (where distinct from the customer, e.g. leasing arrangements), the trailer manufacturer, the system installer, our commercial and engineering teams, the aftermarket team and distributors.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the aftermarket team, particularly during customer launches.
  • Own the customer feedback loop for the SaaS product, feeding features, bugs and requests into its subscription roadmap.
  • Lead the technical-commercial input on the electrical charging product: gathering customer requirements and identifying charging opportunities within their operations.
  • Provide initial technical assessment for go-to-market activity in new countries: homologation, installation requirements and local legislation, escalating to specialists as needed.
  • Provide technical input into commercial conversations led by account executives — renewals, expansions and proposals.
  • Maintain the technical relationship with partners' engineering teams.
  • Contribute to the internal process and tool development as the business scales.

Qualifications & experience

  • Based in or near Leatherhead, UK, with willingness to travel to Europe; professional English required, French strongly desired.
  • 3+ years' experience in a commercial-facing role (customer success, sales/solutions engineering, technical account management, or similar).
  • Able to operate independently from the outset: owning accounts, running difficult conversations, and prioritising with minimal ramp-up.
  • Technical fluency to translate a customer problem into a well-scoped engineering requirement.
  • Experience working with technical specifications (e.g. vehicle/trailer specs vs. system specs) to validate orders and flag deviations from standard product.
  • Awareness of market-entry considerations for technical products — homologation, installation requirements, local regulation — sufficient for first-pass assessment.
  • Strong stakeholder management, including with multiple parties holding conflicting priorities on the same account.
  • Highly organised, able to manage a live queue of items across multiple accounts.
  • Comfortable defining requirements for a product still taking shape, rather than executing against a fixed spec.

Advantageous

  • Experience with CRM or ticketing tools.
  • Dutch, or another European language, in addition to French.
  • Background in transport, cold chain, energy, or industrial equipment.
  • Exposure to SaaS or subscription-based products.
